 Some M.O.T facts:

• More than 2/3rds of each tyre on the vehicle has to have at least 1.6mm of viable tread - including the spare? Tyres are inspected for damage around their entire circumference for faults many motorists would pay little heed to on a daily basis.
   
• A faulty sidelight bulb is sufficient to fail the M.O.T and that means more cost to you for a re-test.
   
• Wipers must clean effectively and the water jets must be working.
   
• Corroded brake pipes and structural members are a favourite (potentially lethal) "failure" but they can be difficult for the inexperienced eye to spot.
   
• Diesel engines have to undergo rigorous particle emission tests: and a dirty air filter can give rise to failure!
